Wooden Tainter gates on the Montezuma Valley system, radial gates cranked by hand, of a kind built across the West in the 1880s and rarely surviving.

Shows: The timber gate construction and hand gear of a nineteenth-century radial gate.

What this does not let you conclude: Whether these gates still control water; the channel is dry in the photograph. HAER's compilation date; the record gives initial construction as ca. 1885. Photograph 1 of 2, by Jet Lowe.
