Mid-June in Colorado, on a survey. The snow is still deep enough to stand a pack train on, and the drift's melting edge in the foreground is the water the plains were waiting for.

What this does not let you conclude: A measurement, or a place. The Survey's title says only 'Colorado' -- no range, no elevation. 15 June 1873 -- the date is in the Survey's own title.
